Virtual Tanning Bed Repair

Digital multimeter and hand tools on a technician's bench

Most towns do not have a tanning bed technician anymore. When a bed goes down, salon owners and home owners are left with a parts website, a YouTube video and a guess. A virtual session puts a technician on your phone instead. You point the camera, Stan Pope walks you through the bed, and you come away knowing what failed, which part fixes it, and whether you can do it yourself.

Book a session: use the request form below, or call (248) 545-5577 with your make, model and what the bed is doing. Flat fee by tier, listed below. Open 7 days.

What a session gets you

  • The real diagnosis, not a guess. Lamp, starter or ballast? Breaker, fuse or timer? We find out on camera.
  • The exact part for your make and model, so you order once. We can source parts by request, including for discontinued beds.
  • Step-by-step guidance on the safe fixes you can do yourself: lamps, starters, fuses, struts, filters and fans.
  • A straight answer when it is not a DIY job, and what to ask a local electrician or tech so you are not overcharged.

Who books virtual sessions

  • Salons outside Michigan in states with no local tanning tech, or where the nearest one is weeks out.
  • Northern Michigan and rural salons where a service trip costs more than the fix.
  • Home tanning bed and red light bed owners who want their own bed running again without a stranger in the house.
  • Buyers of used beds who want an expert looking over the seller's bed before they pay. See our repair or replace guide.
  • Electricians and handymen who can wire anything but have never been inside a tanning bed.
  • New salon owners who inherited equipment with the lease and need to know what they have.

Problems we solve on video

Every brand

Ergoline, ETS, KBL, Wolff, ProSun, SunStar, Montego Bay, Sunmaster, Sun Dash, Soltron, Sunquest, Sunfire, ESB and the older and discontinued beds still earning money in salons. If it tans, Stan has probably had it open.

How it works

  1. Call (248) 545-5577. Make, model, what it is doing, and where you are.
  2. We quote the session fee and set a time. Open 7 days.
  3. Get ready: phone charged, good light, serial plate photo, a multimeter if you have one. Bed powered off and unplugged until we say otherwise.
  4. Live video call on Zoom or Google Meet. We send the link. You hold the camera, we walk the bed with you and narrow it down.
  5. You leave with the answer: the fault, the part number, the fix, and whether you need hands on site.

Safety first

Commercial tanning beds run on 208 to 240 volts and the capacitors in a ballast can hold a charge after the power is off. We will never ask you to work inside a powered bed. When a job belongs to a licensed electrician or an on-site technician, we say so. In Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, that technician can be us. See Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Northern Michigan.

Frequently asked questions

Can a tanning bed be diagnosed over video?

Most of the time, yes. The common failures (no power, tripped breakers, blown fuses, dead lamps, bad starters, failed ballasts, timers, fans and lid struts) show clear symptoms on camera. A technician who has seen them for decades can usually name the fault and the part in one session. If it truly needs hands on the bed, you will know that too, and why.

How much does a virtual tanning bed repair session cost?

Sessions are a flat fee by tier, starting at $59 for a 20 minute triage, $149 for a 45 minute guided repair, $99 for a 30 minute used bed video inspection, $199 for a 60 minute new salon planning session and $149 for a 45 minute staff training session. The exact fee is confirmed when you book, before the call starts. It also stops you from buying parts you do not need.

Do you do virtual sessions outside Michigan?

Yes. Virtual sessions work anywhere in the United States with a phone signal. Salons in states with no local tanning technician use them most.

What do I need for the call?

A smartphone with Zoom or Google Meet, a charged battery, good light, the bed's make and model (a photo of the serial plate is best), and, if you have one, a basic multimeter. Keep the bed powered off and unplugged unless we ask you to power it for a specific test.

Is it safe to work on my own tanning bed?

Many fixes, like swapping lamps, starters, fuses and struts, are safe with the power off. Commercial beds run on 208 to 240 volts, so we will tell you plainly when a job belongs to a licensed electrician or an on-site technician, and we will never walk you into the live side of a bed.

Can you check a used tanning bed before I buy it?

Yes. Book a session while you are with the seller. We look at lamp hours, acrylic condition, the electrical panel and how the bed runs, and tell you what it will cost to put right before you hand over money.
