Building a Home Wellness Room in Metro Detroit: Tanning, Red Light and Beyond
The home gym grew up. Across Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, Northville and Grosse Pointe, the flex room next to the gym is becoming a full wellness suite: sauna, cold plunge, massage space, and increasingly a tanning bed or red light bed. Here is how to plan the light-based equipment so the room works as well as it looks.
What goes in a wellness room
The common recipe: sauna for heat, cold plunge for recovery, red light for the daily habit, and a tanning bed for color on demand. The sauna and plunge get all the press; the tanning and red light equipment is what we bring, because it is the same machinery we have installed and serviced for salons since 1990.
Plan the power first
Every serious piece of wellness equipment wants amperage: saunas, plunge chillers, tanning beds and full-body red light units. If the room is being built or renovated, run the dedicated circuits while the walls are open. We coordinate with your electrician or builder on exactly what the tanning and red light equipment needs so nothing is an afterthought.
Layout that respects the equipment
- Clearance: beds need room to open fully and to be serviced without moving them
- Ceiling: stand-up units and some red light towers want height; measure before you fall in love with a unit
- Heat and air: a sauna and a tanning bed in one sealed room is a cooling plan, not an accident
- Floors: commercial-grade equipment is heavy; finished lower levels handle it well, upper floors deserve a check
Buy once, service forever
Wellness rooms fail when the equipment becomes orphaned: bought online, installed by movers, serviced by nobody. Every unit we place comes with the thing the internet cannot ship: a local company that answers the phone. Consultation and sourcing through installation and red light equipment, plus lamps and repairs for as long as you own it.

What does a home wellness room include?
The common setup is a sauna, a cold plunge, and light-based equipment: a red light bed or panel for daily use and often a tanning bed. We handle the tanning and red light side: consultation, sourcing, installation and lifetime service.
Can a tanning bed and sauna share a room?
They can share a space if the cooling is planned. Tanning beds generate heat and want airflow, so we plan placement and ventilation so both pieces of equipment perform properly.
Who installs wellness room equipment in Metro Detroit?
Saunas and plunges have their installers; for tanning beds and red light equipment there is essentially one local specialist. Sun Systems and Service has installed and serviced light-based equipment across Metro Detroit since 1990 and works alongside your builder or electrician.
