Tanning Bed Repair

Tanning Bed Repair in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Fluorescent tanning lamps lit on a bench with their ballasts and wiring exposed

Sun Systems and Service repairs tanning beds in Ann Arbor and across Washtenaw County, on-site, for every make and model. We are based in Metro Detroit and have served Michigan salons since 1990, and Ann Arbor has been part of the territory for as long as there have been salons on Washtenaw Avenue. Call (248) 545-5577 any day from 9 to 6 and you reach the technician, not a directory.

Bed down right now? Call (248) 545-5577. Tell us the make, model and what it is doing. Some problems we can walk you through on the phone or on video. The rest we schedule, and we bring the common parts with us.

Washtenaw Avenue to State Street: salons on the student calendar

Ann Arbor's salons sit on its arterials. Washtenaw Avenue from the edge of campus out through Pittsfield Township to Ypsilanti is the longest commercial strip in the county, with Carpenter Road crossing it near the mall. State Street south of I-94 around Briarwood, Stadium Boulevard, Packard and Plymouth Road on the north side carry the rest, and Jackson Road leads west toward Dexter and Chelsea. The University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti set the rhythm. Demand spikes before spring break and again before graduation and summer, which is exactly when a dead bed costs the most.

From Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor is about 45 minutes to an hour by M-14 or I-94 depending on where the truck starts the day. We group Washtenaw County calls with west Wayne County stops in Plymouth, Canton and Livonia and run them together, so an Ann Arbor salon is not waiting on a dedicated trip. Phone diagnosis comes first. If it points to a ballast, a starter set or a fan, the part rides out with us.

Old downtown, newer strips, one electrical question

Downtown Ann Arbor and the campus edge are nineteenth and early twentieth century buildings, split and rewired many times. The Washtenaw and Carpenter corridor is 1970s through 1990s plaza stock. Pittsfield Township is newer still. The question is the same everywhere. Is the bed on a circuit that can carry it? Breakers that trip at the evening rush and ballasts that fail young point at the wiring first, and we meter the circuit under load before we replace anything. Our electrical requirements guide explains what to hand your electrician.

Bed down today? Start with a video session

Ann Arbor is close enough for regular on-site work, but if the bed is down on a Saturday in March you do not want to wait for the next Washtenaw run. Book a video session with Stan now. He walks through the bed with you on your phone, you know the same day what failed and which part fixes it, and if it needs the truck, the truck follows.

What we fix

  • Bed will not turn on or will not start: power, timers, door and safety switches, control boards. Start with our troubleshooting checklist.
  • Lamps dim, flickering or dead: lamp, starter or ballast, metered rather than guessed.
  • Breaker tripping and electrical faults, including beds on shared or undersized circuits.
  • Overheating and shutdowns: fans, filters, ventilation and cooling.
  • Timers and controls that drift, stick or fail.
  • Lid shocks, hinges and struts on canopies that will not stay up.
  • Acrylics that are cracked, hazed or yellowed.
  • Relamping as a full set with the right lamps. See how often to relamp.
  • Hybrid and red light beds: same electrical fundamentals, same tech. See red light equipment.

How a service call works

  1. Call (248) 545-5577. Make, model, what it is doing and where in Washtenaw County you are.
  2. Phone or video diagnosis. If it is a breaker, a timer setting or a door switch, we will tell you.
  3. Scheduled visit on a Washtenaw and west Wayne run, with the common parts for your bed on the truck.
  4. Quote before work begins. One number. Our repair cost guide explains what drives it.
  5. Repair, test at full output, and a maintenance plan timed to the campus calendar so relamps happen before the rush. See our preventive maintenance guide.

Frequently asked questions

How does an Ann Arbor service call work when you are based in Metro Detroit?

Ann Arbor is about 45 minutes to an hour from our base by M-14 or I-94, so we group Washtenaw County calls with west Wayne County stops in Plymouth, Canton and Livonia and run them as one day. You call (248) 545-5577, we diagnose by phone, and the visit is scheduled with the common parts for your bed on the truck.

Do you cover Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter and Chelsea?

Yes. Ypsilanti and the Washtenaw Avenue corridor through Pittsfield Township are part of the same run as Ann Arbor, and Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Milan and Whitmore Lake are scheduled with it. Brighton and Howell in Livingston County are covered by arrangement.

My bed is down during the busy spring stretch. What is the fastest way to get help in Ann Arbor?

Book a video session. You put the bed on your phone, Stan walks through it with you, and you know the same day what failed and which part fixes it. Many problems are a starter, a fuse or a setting you can handle yourself. If it needs the truck, the session is credited toward the on-site visit in Michigan.

Can you ship parts to an Ann Arbor salon between visits?

Yes. We supply tanning parts by request, including ballasts, starters, lamps, timers, fans, shocks and acrylics, for every make and model including discontinued beds. Tell us the model and serial plate and we will tell you what is available and how fast.
