Tanning Bed Repair
Tanning Bed Repair in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Sun Systems and Service repairs tanning beds in Grand Rapids and across West Michigan, on-site, for every make and model. We are based in Metro Detroit and have served Michigan salons since 1990. Grand Rapids is a scheduled regional run for us rather than a daily stop, and this page explains how that works so you know what to expect before you call (248) 545-5577. The phone is answered 7 days, 9 to 6, by the technician.
28th Street to Alpine Avenue: West Michigan, scheduled by region
Grand Rapids' salons follow the same roads its shoppers do. 28th Street is the retail spine, running seven miles through Wyoming, the city and Kentwood to the Woodland Mall at the East Beltline. Alpine Avenue carries the northwest side through Walker and Comstock Park. Plainfield Avenue covers the northeast, the East Beltline runs down the east edge past Cascade and Ada, and Rivertown Parkway in Grandville and Division Avenue to the south fill in the rest. Holland and Zeeland sit half an hour west on I-196, Muskegon and Grand Haven up US-31, Kalamazoo and Portage down US-131.
From Metro Detroit, Grand Rapids is about two and a half hours west on I-96. We do not drive that for one salon. We group Kent County calls with Holland, Muskegon and Kalamazoo stops and run West Michigan as a planned trip, which means every call on that run gets diagnosed by phone first and every part it is likely to need is on the truck when it leaves. If you are planning a relamp or a known repair, calling ahead gets you onto the next run.
Bed down today? Book a video session first
For a West Michigan salon, the video session with Stan is the fastest first step, and most Grand Rapids calls start there. He walks through the bed with you on your phone, you know the same day what failed and which part fixes it, and many problems turn out to be something you can handle yourself. If it needs the truck, the truck follows on the next West Michigan run.
What the buildings tell us
The 28th Street corridor is 1960s through 1980s plaza stock, some of it the oldest mall-era retail in the state, and the panels in those suites were sized for other tenants. The newer centers on the East Beltline and in Kentwood and Grandville have more capacity, but a bed at the far end of a long suite still sees low voltage under load. Breakers that trip at the rush and ballasts that fail young point at the wiring first, which is why a video session starts with voltage at the outlet. Our electrical requirements guide covers what to hand your electrician.
What we fix
- Bed will not turn on or will not start: power, timers, door and safety switches, control boards. Start with our troubleshooting checklist.
- Lamps dim, flickering or dead: lamp, starter or ballast, metered rather than guessed.
- Breaker tripping and electrical faults, including beds on shared or undersized circuits.
- Overheating and shutdowns: fans, filters, ventilation and cooling.
- Timers and controls that drift, stick or fail.
- Lid shocks, hinges and struts on canopies that will not stay up.
- Acrylics that are cracked, hazed or yellowed.
- Relamping as a full set with the right lamps. See how often to relamp.
- Hybrid and red light beds: same electrical fundamentals, same tech. See red light equipment.

Call (248) 545-5577Frequently asked questions
Do you really come to Grand Rapids from Metro Detroit?
Yes, as a scheduled regional run. Grand Rapids is about two and a half hours west on I-96, so we group Kent County calls with Holland, Muskegon and Kalamazoo stops and cover West Michigan in one trip. Call (248) 545-5577 with the make, model and symptom, we diagnose by phone first, and the parts for your bed ride out with us.
My Grand Rapids bed is down today. What is the fastest way to get help?
Book a video session with Stan. You show him the bed on your phone, he walks through it with you, and you know the same day what failed and which part fixes it. Most West Michigan calls start this way because it is faster than waiting for the truck, and many problems are a starter, a fuse or a setting you can handle yourself. If it needs the truck, the truck follows, and the session is credited toward the on-site visit.
Do you cover Holland, Muskegon and Kalamazoo as well?
Yes. Holland and Zeeland along I-196, Muskegon and Grand Haven along US-31, and Kalamazoo and Portage along US-131 are all scheduled on the same West Michigan run as Grand Rapids. Call with your city and we will tell you when the next run is going through.
Can you ship tanning bed parts to a Grand Rapids salon?
Yes. We supply tanning parts by request for every make and model, including ballasts, starters, lamps, timers, fans, shocks and acrylics, and ship them to West Michigan between runs. After a video session you also know exactly which part to order.
