Hall Road to Van Dyke, Macomb County's busiest strip

The salons in Sterling Heights follow two spines. Hall Road, which is M-59, runs across the north end of the city and carries the big-box centers and the plazas between them from Dequindre to the Clinton Township line. Van Dyke, which is M-53, runs north and south through the middle, with more salons along Mound, Schoenherr and the mile roads from 14 Mile up to 18 Mile. Metro Parkway at 16 Mile ties the two together. Utica and Shelby Township sit right off the top of the city, and their salons are part of the same run.

We group Macomb County calls into one loop, and Sterling Heights is the hub of it. A Hall Road salon, a Van Dyke salon and a Clinton Township salon can all be handled in a single day. That also means the common parts for the beds we see most in Macomb are already on the truck when the phone diagnosis points to a ballast, a starter set or a fan.

Plaza-era wiring on Van Dyke, newer stock on Hall Road

Sterling Heights grew fast from the 1960s through the 1980s, and the plazas along Van Dyke and the lower mile roads show it. Panels from that era were sized for the tenants of that era, and a salon that later moved into a former dry cleaner or video store often inherits a circuit that was never meant for several beds running at once. The Hall Road centers are newer and usually have the capacity, but a bed at the far end of a long suite can still see low voltage under load. Lamps that dim when the next bed starts and ballasts that die young are the symptoms. We meter the circuit before we blame the bed. Our electrical requirements guide spells out what most beds need.

What we fix

  • Bed will not turn on or will not start: power, timers, door and safety switches, control boards. Start with our troubleshooting checklist.
  • Lamps dim, flickering or dead on one bank: lamp, starter or ballast, metered rather than guessed.
  • Breaker tripping and electrical faults, including beds on undersized or shared circuits.
  • Overheating and shutdowns: fans, filters, ventilation and cooling.
  • Timers and controls that drift, stick or fail.
  • Lid shocks, hinges and struts on canopies that will not stay up.
  • Acrylics that are cracked, hazed or yellowed.
  • Relamping as a full set with the right lamps. See how often to relamp.
  • Hybrid and red light beds: same electrical fundamentals, same tech. See red light equipment.

How a service call works

  1. Call (248) 545-5577. Make, model, what it is doing and where in Sterling Heights you are.
  2. Phone diagnosis. If it is a breaker, a timer setting or a door switch, we will tell you.
  3. Scheduled visit on a Macomb County run, with the common parts for your bed on the truck.
  4. Quote before work begins. One number. Our repair cost guide explains what drives it.
  5. Repair, test at full output, and a maintenance plan so the next call is a scheduled relamp. See our preventive maintenance guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you cover Sterling Heights north of Hall Road and into Shelby Township?

Yes. Everything from the Warren line at 14 Mile up through Hall Road and on into Utica, Shelby Township and Macomb Township is part of the same Macomb County run. Call (248) 545-5577 with the make, model and symptom and we will slot you in with the other Macomb stops.

The lamps on one side of my bed are dim and the other side is fine. What is that?

Most beds split the lamps across several ballasts, so when one bank is dim or dead and the rest is bright, a ballast or its starters feeding that bank is the usual suspect. Mismatched lamp ages do the same thing in a milder way. We meter the bank, confirm which it is, and carry the common ballasts and starters so it is normally fixed in one visit.

Can you get parts for an older bed in my Sterling Heights salon?

Yes. We supply tanning parts by request, including ballasts, starters, lamps, timers, fans, shocks and acrylics, and we have sourced parts for discontinued beds for decades. Tell us the make, model and serial plate and we will tell you what is available.

Which nearby cities do you serve from Sterling Heights?

Utica, Shelby Township, Macomb Township, Clinton Township, Warren and Madison Heights, plus Troy and Rochester Hills across Dequindre in Oakland County.
